Brazil 3-1 Cote d'Ivoire
Kaka had two assists before being sent off
Realmadrid.com
The Kaka-Luis Fabiano partnership was enough to crush Cote d'Ivoires hopes. The African side never seemed to be able to face Brazil as an equal. Kaka served two assists, but was sent off with a double booking and will miss the match against Portugal. This is Brazil's second victory, which gives them a ticket to the Last 16.
The pace to the game was slow in the first 15 minutes, but then Kaka served an amazing pass to Luis Fabiano, who sent the ball to the net through one of the top corners of the goal (24').
Cote d'Ivoire didn't react to this and played a defensive game, trying to make the most of a possible mistake by Brazil. They decided to step up their game close to the end of the first half.
Luis Fabiano scored again on the 50-minute mark from a great personal effort. Maicon, Kaka and Robinho were also in top form and created the third goal, which was scored by Elano following an assist from the Real Madrid midfielder (62').
The African side improved as a reaction to this and Drogba eventually scored for them ten minutes later. Both sides started to make too many fouls and Kaka was eventually sent off unfairly close to the end of the clash with a double booking.
Higuain makes history with hat-trick
The Argentine is the third Madridista to score three or more goals in a World Cup match
Realmadrid.com
Gonzalo Higuain moved to the top of the World Cup scoring chart with his hat-trick against Korea Republic on Thursday. Additionally, he joins Emilio ButragueƱo and Michel as the only Madridistas to score three or more goals in a World Cup match.
Emilio ButragueƱo's feat dates back to the 1986 World Cup in Mexico, where he scored four goals against Denmark. Michel became the second Madridista to do so in 1990 against Korea Republic in Udine, Italy.
Higuain also became only the third Argentine to score three goals in one World Cup match. Guillermo Stabile did it back in 1930 and Gabriel Omar Batistuta scored hat-tricks in both 1994 and 1998.
