With increasing fuel prices, people are beginning to think twice before taking their vehicles out for a drive. Here are some tips on how you can save on fuel.

STEPS

1.      REDUCE YOUR SPEED

The higher the speed, the higher the fuel consumption. Slow down, relax and enjoy the ride. Driving at a moderate speed will always help save fuel.

2.      CHECK TYRE PRESSURE

Check your tyre pressure regularly. Tyres lose pressure over time (about 1 psi per month) due to temperature and other factors. Tyres with lower pressure will have more rolling resistance resulting in increased fuel consumption.

 

3.      FILLING FUEL

The more fuel you have in your tank, the less air occupying capacity it will have in the empty space. Petrol evaporates very fast. While filling up fuel, do not squeeze the trigger of the nozzle in a fast mode. If you are pumping on a fast rate, some of the liquid that goes to your tank will become vapor.

 

4.      ACCELERATE WITH MODERATION.

If you accelerate speedily and often, the less fuel you save. You should drive with required moderate speed and use your brakes less often to save fuel. Slow speed and attention to regular bumps will serve the purpose.

 

5.      USE STOCK TYRE.

Before changing your tyre to the modern style thick ones, think again. The more the width, the higher the rolling resistance offered and higher the fuel consumption.

6.      PARK YOUR VEHICLES IN SHADE SINCE IT WILL TAKE LESS TIME FOR THE CAR TO COOL DOWN ONCE YOU START DRIVING AGAIN.

 

7.      USE GEARS WISELY.

Higher gears at low speed and vice versa will lead to lose of more fuel. Shift gears carefully and according to the desired speed. This will cause less strain on your engine.

 

8.      CLEAN YOUR CAR.

Remove excess weight from your car that you do not require. 50 kg added load in your car will increase fuel consumption by two percent.

 

9.      MAINTAIN YOUR ENGINE IN GOOD CONDITION. 

Check the lubricants, hand brakes, and also the clutch. Regularly clean the air filters which block the path of air to the engine reducing the mileage and performance of the vehicle.
